Zynga Poker hacker sent to jail for two years

zynga poker chipsThe hacker from England who stole $12 million in Zynga Poker chips earlier this year goes to jail for two years. Behind prison bars Ashley Mitchell can overthink his sins after judge Judge Philip Wassall reportedly told him: “The dishonesty in this case was substantial and protracted. Online security is a priority for everyone these days. You deprived Zynga of income. It is quite clear you used a considerable degree of expertise and persistence to hack into the system. It is a considerable aggravating feature that someone hacks into systems in this way when so much business and personal finance is done using electronic means.”

While Zynga claimed the chips were worth $12 million, the hacker earned less than $100,000 with his scam in which he stole the identity of two Zynga employees.

What’s remarkable is that Mitchell is also a competitor of Zynga, as he is the owner of Gambino Poker. This Facebook application is similar to Zynga Poker and has over half a million monthly users.

It seems like Zynga has one concern less for the next two years. It’s hard to run a business from behind prison bars…
