The new Jack Strauss

Team Pokerstars Pro Gualtar Salles is in the center of attention these days at the World Series of Poker, as he is experiencing an unbelievable revival at this years Main Event.

The former CART driver was down yesterday to one single 1,000 chip when he lost a big pot with pocket jacks against 89 offsuit. Both the dealer and Salles thought Salles was left with no chips, untill they discovered the yellow chip. The mistake was finally noticed, and since then Gualter Salles is re-living one of the most famous stories in poker: the ‘chip-and-a-chair’ story about Jack Strauss in 1982, in which Strauss was left with a single chip after a lost pot and went on to win the WSOP Main Event.

The hand after the Brazilian player won the hand, which brought him to over 10,000 chips. The next hand he nearly tripples to 32,000 and the third hand Salles foun AK, got it all-in versus two players who checked out the hand. An ace on the board was enough for Salles to win the pot and to get him a six-figure chip stack. Funny enough, the very next hand Salles got AK again He got it all-in preflop against pocket 7′s and turned a king.

Now that we are finished with day 5 of the WSOP Main Event, Gualter Salles is sitting on 939,000 in chips! Can he repeat the chip and a chair story of Jack Strauss?
