Island of Antigua: Shutdown US poker rooms is illegal | Online Poker Bonus
The island of Antigua, where Absolute Poker is based, is planning to sue the United States again for violating international trade laws. The reason is the shutdown of Absolute Poker and the other US poker rooms (Pokerstars and Full Tilt).
Antigua is a small island in the Cariben and relies heavily on poker and casino as their source of income. After tourism, online gambling is the most important employer in the country.
It is not the first time Antigua clashed with the United States in court. In 2005 the Island of Antigua sued the US government through the World Trade Organization and won. The WTO ruled that the US violated international trading rules by prosecuting the operators of offshore e-gaming sites.
Mark Mendel, who advices Antigua in this case is very clear on the new case: “I don’t think there’s another country in the world that puts people in jail for engaging in trade that’s lawful under international law. It’s as if Antigua would put Americans in jail for selling pineapples.”
See you in court..
