Another setback for French poker players | Poker Bonus Club Marawa
News·
Times are not good for French poker players who are trying to make a living of the game of poker. First there was a immense reduction in the player base on various sites, as poker sites entering the French market had to acquire a license and subsequently had to shut off all non-French players from their French software. As a result poker players in France who played on Pokerstars, can only play around 1,000 fellow country men on Pokerstars, instead of the regular player base of 50,000 people.
Now more bad news has reached French poker players with a French judge ordering ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) to block all unlicensed poker and gambling websites. What started as a victory for online poker in France (legalization and regulation is a good thing), has turned into a nightmare for French poker.
Besides the forementioned problems, French players are also facing huge rake percentages. Understandable from a poker site’s view; the sites faced high costs of acquiring licensing fees and high costs of setting up a special platform for French players.
The latest setback was caused by the French court. The ISP companies went to court because they didn’t want to block certain poker sites and argued that it would be difficult and inefficient to block the sites. According to the ISP’s it could possibly lead to blocking legal sites and illegal sites moving to other internet adresses to work around the blockings.
If and wehen the ISP companies will fight the ruling is not known, but you can make a bet on it..
