First there was a immense reduction in the player base on various sites, as poker sites entering the French market had to acquire a license and subsequently had to shut off all non-French players from their French software. Besides the forementioned problems, French players are also facing huge rake percentages. Understandable from a poker site’s view; the sites faced high costs of acquiring licensing fees and high costs of setting up a special platform for French players.

The latest setback was caused by the French court. The ISP companies went to court because they didn’t want to block certain poker sites and argued that it would be difficult and inefficient to block the sites. According to the ISP’s it could possibly lead to blocking legal sites and illegal sites moving to other internet adresses to work around the blockings.

If and wehen the ISP companies will fight the ruling is not known, but you can make a bet on it..
